For more than 20 years the Brain Injury Association (HB) Inc has provided information, support and education to people with brain injuries and their whanau in Hawke’s Bay.

Based in Hastings central, BIA (HB) continues to grow as an organisation with the generous help of supporters in the community, local businesses and community funders.

Our Mission

To promote a quality of life that maximises potential, choice and independence for people with brain injury, their families/Whanau and carers.

Our History

BIA (HB) started from a support group of parents into the organisation we are today. For the first two years services were provided by a group of volunteers, and mainly involved social events and workshops for small groups.

In March 1999 Living with Acquired Brain Injury Hawke’s Bay Incorporated changed its name to Brain Injury Association, Hawke’s Bay, and became affiliated to the Brain Injury Association of New Zealand.

It soon became apparent that the district; extending to Napier, Hastings, Havelock North, Flaxmere, Waipawa, Waipukurau; required something more than volunteer support.

Funds were then raised for a pilot scheme for an employed Liaison Officer who initially worked 20 hours per week and this has gradually increased to the employment of five staff and the organisation being able to offer a range of services.
